The Ithacan
My entire college experience can be summed up by two words: The Ithacan. I worked on the campus newspaper from day one and never looked back. I worked for the paper for four years (minus one semester studying abroad) and left a deep impression in the visual style.
I led complete redesign of the student newspaper with fellow designer Nic Barajas and trained editors for the transition from Quark XPress to Adobe InDesign. The Ithacan was named Best In Design in New York at the New York Press Association Better College Newspaper Competition for 2005 and 2nd place for the Redesign by the Student Society of Newspaper’ 2006 College News Design Contest at University of Missouri-Columbia.
As the Online Editor, I completely revamped the content management and redesigned the website completely. Much of the website looks the same today. I founded The Ithacan's first set of blogs and wrote about issues facing higher education at College Ave. I also was the Editor and Lead Designer of Year In Review. I also trained the staff and encouraged reporters to explore new media and multimedia approaches to stories. The Ithacan won an Online Pacemaker from the Associated Collegiate Press for 2006 to 2007.
